We have a no pet policy on our sites but wondered if anyone has a resident with a therapy dog on a no pet site. Obviously it is essential to their wellbeing so difficult to discriminate against someone with a dog as it is not a “pet”. Interested to see how it works.

I think if you have a not pet policy and allow one resident to have a ‘therapy’ dog, you will be suddenly be inundated with other residents saying that a pet is essential to their wellbeing! Be careful.

Is it worth reviewing your no pet policy? We allow pets, but each request is dealt with on an individual basis and we assess:

    – whether the almshouse site and the almshouse itself is suitable for the pet
    – how many pets there are already on the site
    – is the resident capable of looking after the pet
    – who would look after the pet in the event of sickness or hospital admission
