St Saviour’s Court joins Croydon Almshouses

Croydon Almshouses has purchased St Saviour’s Court, marking an important new chapter for the oldest charity in Croydon and its residents.

The transfer took effect on 1st October 2026, bringing St Saviour’s Court in Purley and Elis David Almshouses in Waddon together under Croydon Almshouses – two almshouses, one community.

The milestone was marked with a celebratory event at St Saviour’s Court on 1st October, bringing residents, staff, and trustees together to honour the occasion and look ahead to the future. Deputy Mayor (Statutory) and Cabinet Member for Homes, Lynne Hale, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care Councillor, Yvette Hopley and Purley and Woodcote Ward Councillor, Simon Brew, also joined residents for the celebration.

While St Saviour’s Court and Elis David Almshouse will each retain their own identity, history and character, they are now part of Croydon Almshouses community.  Staff will continue to work closely with residents, keeping them informed and involved as things develop.

“Welcoming St Saviour’s Court into Croydon Almshouses is a pivotal moment for us as we double the number of almshouse residents we can support. Two almshouses. One community’ captures what we aim to achieve for our residents: increasing wellbeing, reducing loneliness and enabling people to manage their own lives. We are delighted to welcome St Saviour’s Court residents and look forward to this next step together as one community.”

Hayley James, Chief Executive of Croydon Almshouses
