Durability

  1. Robustness
New buildings should be flexible and capable of adaptation over time.  Simple, clear layouts are preferred.  Buildings should be economic to construct but made of high quality materials that will last well and are simple to look after and repair.
  1. Energy Efficiency
Energy saving measures should have been considered and utilised wherever possible.  Various heating, ventilation and lighting costs should be considered and Trustees should be able to demonstrate that they have employed the best option.
  1. Landscaping and Gardens
Gardens should be attractive and easily maintained.  There should be seating areas which are shaded from sun and rain.  Planting should incorporate year round appeal.  If appropriate space should be set aside for residents who enjoy gardening to have their own patch of garden.
  1. Social and Community
Aspects of the project which would be of use to the local community and would assist residents in a social capacity should also be taken into account.
