Leave a Legacy

A legacy is one of the most effective ways in which you could support the Almshouse Association and help almshouse residents today and in the future

The Almshouse Association is committed to improving the lives of almshouse residents throughout the United Kingdom and working with almshouse charities to ensure that their residents enjoy a quality of life that is second to none. In rural areas, in particular, almshouses enable residents who may have retired to return to the place of their childhood and to live out their days in peace and tranquillity, and in surroundings familiar to them.

Almshouses also form a vital part of our national heritage and there can be no better tribute to their benefactors than the preservation of fine listed buildings which internally have been converted into warm and comfortable homes. It is a fact, however, that older listed buildings are proportionately more expensive to modernise and upgrade, and without the support of the Almshouse Association many could disappear.

Over 95% of almshouse charities are members of the Almshouse Association which advises and assists charities in a variety of ways including the provision of interest free loans to help with renovations and building of new almshouses. Although a few almshouse charities have extra care or nursing facilities, the majority have fewer than twenty dwellings, and their trustees rely heavily on the Almshouse Association to guide and assist them on a day to day basis. The Almshouse Association is dependent upon legacy income to do this which is why your legacy or codicil would be invaluable to us and mean so much. It would, in fact, be the gift of a lifetime.

There are a number of ways to leave a legacy

  • By making a Gift in your Will
  • By leaving Stocks or Shares in your Will
  • By making a Gift in memory of a friend or relative
