Building regulations and conservation issues will dictate certain aspects of almshouse design, especially for listed buildings. Careful consideration should be given to future-proofing design solutions to minimise upgrades at a later date. New ideas on design and practical technological solutions should be explored.
The Association has documented some good ideas from almshouse projects that have been observed over the last 20 years. Our Tips and Design Guidance document includes photographs and small details which have impressed the Committee when visiting short-listed charities.
