We have recently converted to a CIO that combined three charities. Its a fiddly process. Our experience is a that a lawyer is essential (unless the trustee’s include an appropriately qualified lawyer who is happy to do the work). We used the conversion process as an opportunity to review our beneficiary group etc. A CIO is a new organisation and the conversion process entails dealing with the Charity Commission, The Land Registry, setting up new bank accounts and getting the residents to sign a new letter of appointment etc. Its well worth doing but it takes time… All the organisations respond at their own pace!
