Improving your carbon footprint

DRAFT ONLY

The current Almshouse Association membership looks after over 30,000 dwellings, most of which will, no doubt, require attention in order to improve their energy efficiency.

If they have not done so already, trustees will be looking to put in place action plans to address their carbon footprint. The benefits of this process should also help reduce energy bills and improve the living conditions of all almshouse residents.

Knowledge regarding green solutions and finding ways to fund the projects are challenges that all almshouse charities will be faced with, and The Almshouse Association will make every effort to support and guide you on your journey to net zero.

In our strategy, we have set the following goals for the membership:

Member Goals by 2025

All members have an up-to-date quinquennial inspection which includes an EPC certificate for all dwellings

All members have adopted
The Almshouse Association Sustainability Policy or equivalent

All members have made significant attempts to discuss decarbonisation with their staff and residents

Member Goals by 2030

All members are moving forward towards greater sustainability, not just in their buildings but how they operate as charities

Long term planning agreed by trustees as to how net zero could be achieved by 2050, if possible

20% of membership is rated as carbon neutral
