The Pickering Almshouses were left in trust by the late Christopher Pickering “to be occupied by
females or married couples of good character and moral worth of the age of at least 65 years and
who have resided in Hornsea for at least 10 years and who cannot maintain themselves by their own
exertions”.


The Pickering Charity is a registered Almshouse Charity and as such the Trustees do not offer
secure tenancies under the provision of the Housing act 1980. All offers of Accommodation are
subject to license. This means that a successful applicant will be given a letter of appointment and
become a beneficiary of the charity when occupying the Almshouse accommodation.


The Pickering Almshouses comprise of 6 units, 78-88 Newbegin, Hornsea, HU18 1AD.
The Governors and Trustees are seeking to recruit new Trustees, to help with the day to day running
of the Almshouses, including administration and management.
The Trustees are volunteers who offer their services free of any charge, other than any agreed
incurred expenses.
