Regional Peer Representatives

The Cumbrian almshouse trustees gather in beautiful Kendal for the Cumbria Almshouse Regional Meeting

Our Regional Peer Representatives are a UK-wide volunteer group of experienced almshouse clerks, trustees, and wardens carefully selected to establish a supportive peer-to-peer network for members. They offer a listening ear and help link you to the best services offered by The Almshouse Association as required.

While the Association remains available for support and guidance whenever needed, we understand the value of local connections. If you would like to speak to someone nearby or arrange a face-to-face meeting, we can facilitate this for you.

Our regional contacts are eager to engage with you and can offer guidance tailored to your needs as well as introduce you to almshouse members in your vicinity. Additionally, along with our Regional Peer Representatives, the Association helps coordinate regional gatherings where you can meet and network with your peers. Information regarding these regional meetings are posted on the Meetings pages of our website.

North London Regional Meeting Sept 22

There are currently eleven Regional Peer Representatives spread across the UK and we aim to increase this to twenty.

Joining us in the role of a Regional Peer Representative

The role of a regional peer representative is a volunteer position that has been developed to support our member charities across the UK in their respective regions. Representatives are on hand to offer a good listening ear to members and have a wealth of experience in the almshouse movement. Their skills and backgrounds range from:

  • running their own almshouse charities
  • managing social housing
  • financial and business planning

Each Regional Peer Representative also organises a Regional Meeting in different locations within their region each year. These meetings are an open forum for members to catch up with each other and offer an informal platform to discuss a variety of topics. In addition, the meetings include an update on the almshouse movement from The Almshouse Association and offer invaluable networking opportunities for all participants.

Our Regional Peer Representatives also, within their individual capacity, visit any charities that feel they need a one-on-one meeting to discuss challenges that may not be appropriate for an open forum, or, alternatively, are available for a telephone call about any queries.

“We are delighted to be working with our Regional Peer Representatives and thank them for the valuable time and commitment they give to support our members throughout the UK.”

We are currently seeking individuals to fulfil the role of a Regional Peer Representative in several key areas:

  • Derbyshire
  • Lincolnshire
  • Northamptonshire
  • Cheshire
  • Staffordshire
  • Shropshire
  • Essex
  • Kent
  • Oxfordshire
  • Berkshire
  • Bedfordshire
  • Surrey
  • Hampshire
  • East/West Sussex
  • Cornwall

If you have a thorough understanding of almshouse charities and you are eager to make a meaningful impact within your community, we encourage you to consider becoming a Regional Peer Representative in one of these areas. Your dedication and insights will be invaluable in providing support to our member charities, fostering collaboration and driving positive change within the almshouse movement

NB: Our Regional Peer Representatives offer local support and guidance but not direct advice which should be sought from The Almshouse Association in the usual way.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to contribute to the success of almshouse charities across the UK.
