Jesus Hospital Canterbury was founded in 1595 and has never been registered at the Land registry. Is there any advice about how to value the property, given today’s commercial value would be huge, and the cost of registering is based on the value?

We paid a solicitor to regisiter a few years ago.

We have also registered for updates from land registry about anyone else trying to make a legal claim against the properties we run.

We are in the middle of registering our almshouses with Land Registry. I have been asked to get the properties valued. Does anyone have any idea’s how to do this and what type of company can value old buildings? I have a feeling an estate agent would refuse to do it.

RICS Chartered Surveyors are the professionals used to value a property for acquisitions, disposals and for accounts (but often at quite some cost). Occassionally estate agents have a qualified surveyor in house but either way they will charge. A websearch will list local ones to you.

We are currently applying for our almshouses to be registered with Land Registry. I have had to get the buildings valued and was told it would be too expensive to have a chartered surveyors so just went to our local estate agent. They have since come back with a valuation and this has been forwarded to our solicitor at no charge to the charity.
