We are following good practice recommended by the Almshouse Association in issuing renewal Letters of Appointment and asking for up-to-date financial information. Unfortunately, we are meeting resistance from our residents, especially with regard to providing supporting documents for figures they have given. There have been flat out refusals to comply. Has anyone else had a similar problem and how did they resolve it? We have talked to residents and written to them, but it has made no difference. I would appreciate any advice you may have based on experience.

I wonder if the conditions in renewed letters of appointment would stand. in a court of law. I know for instance when I contacted the Amshouses Association re introducing no smoking in dwellings we could only do so on new licences.

We are also in the process of updating our letter of appointment. We have a new resident about to join us so updated our current letter to include issues recently experienced including clutter and cleaning! It’s not been updated for some time but I believe AA recommend every 3-5 years?

Than you for raising this Jennifer, please can you tell me where this is a good practice recommendation by the Almshouse Association as I think this is something that would be very helpful for our residents – Many Thanks Lesley

I believe the best place to look is on the Almshouse Association website – policy templates. I hope this helps.

We are implementing a three year rolling basis.
