This is a challenge a lot of charities are facing at the moment, so you’re certainly not alone.
As a Panel Member, my advice would be not to aim for a comprehensive policy first. Start with something simple that reflects how your charity works today and build on it as your confidence grows.
A good policy doesn’t need to be highly technical. It just needs to clearly explain what your charity expects from staff and volunteers, who’s responsible for it, and how it will be reviewed.
There are plenty of templates available online, but I’d be cautious about copying them verbatim. A policy should be relevant to your organisation rather than trying to cover every possible scenario.
